The mini-course `Controversies in Game Theory: Homo Oeconomicus versus Homo Socialis' consists of five course units that provide an in-depth introduction to issues in game theory motivated by the presence of own-regarding and other-regarding preferences. The course integrates theory from sociology, economics, physics, and biology.
Objective
Students are encouraged to think about human interactions, and in particular in the context of game theory, in a way that is traditionally not covered in introductory game theory courses. The aim of the course is to teach students the complex conditional interdependencies of human decision-making with particular focus on whether the individual decision-maker will ultimately act in a purely selfish (own-regarding) way or also considers moral (other-regarding) motivations.
