Abstract | The goal of the Physics II class is an introduction into fields, relativity, wave and quantum mechanics. |
Objective | Student will be presented with a first simple approach to the key ideas behind quantum mechanics and our understanding of matter at the microscopic scale. The section on electromagnetism is meant to be complementary to the course "Netzwerk und Schaltungen", as well as to the lecture "Elektromagnetism" by focusing more on some fundamental aspects. |
Content | The lecture introduce the following concepts: From forces to fields - Coulomb force, the electric field and the electrostatic potential - Lorentz force, magnetostatics and the vector potential - Induction and Maxwell's equation - Electricity and magnetism of matter - Special Relativity Introduction to quantum physics - The crisis of classical mechanics - The photon of Plank and Einstein - De Broglie and wave mechanics - Schroedinger equation - Applications: quantum devices |
