Abstract | Generic modeling approaches for control-oriented models based on first principles, Lagrangian formalism and experimental data. Model parametrization and estimation techniques. Analysis of linear systems, model scaling, linearization, order reduction, and balancing. Basic analysis of nonlinear models. |
Objective | Introduction to system modeling for control. Parameter identification. Analysis of linear and nonlinear systems. Case studies. |
Content | Introduction to generic system modeling approaches for control-oriented models based on first principles and on experimental data. Examples: mechatronic, thermodynamic, chemistry, fluid dynamic, energy, and process engineering systems. Model scaling, linearization, order reduction, and balancing. Estimation techniques (least-squares methods). Class case studies: Loud-speaker, Water-propelled rocket, geostationary satellites, etc. The exercises address practical examples. One larger case study is to be solved. |
